Preventive Care
Proper hygiene care such as brushing and flossing, along with regular checkups,
is key to maintaining healthy gums and teeth. Periodontal disease is a common
oral infection. Gum disease is a painless and slow progressing disease that
destroys the bony support of the teeth, and because it doesn't usually hurt,
most patients aren't aware they have this problem. Dr. Manos and her staff
would much rather see you for routine cleanings than for emergency dental care.
To help maintain your oral health, our
practice provides thorough cleanings, oral examinations, fluoride treatments,
dental sealants, and more to make sure that your teeth and gums are as healthy
as possible and treat potential problems in their earliest stages.
Flouride - Fluoride, either applied
topically to erupted teeth, or ingested orally (called systemic fluoride) during
tooth development, helps to prevent tooth decay, strengthen tooth enamel, and
reduce the harmful effects of plaque. Fluoride also makes the entire tooth
structure more resistant to decay and promotes remineralization, which aids in
repairing early decay before the damage is even visible.
We offer a few different kinds of fluoride
now, not just the foamy stuff-we have "swish" fluoride (liquid rinse) and the
new Vanish fluoride that is an easy paint-on varnish (patients love it because
it has a nice flavor and they can eat/drink immediately after, plus it stays on
for up to 4 hours)We also have duraphat fluoride varnish for sensitive root
surfaces.
Sealants - A dental sealant is a
plastic material that is applied to a chewing surface on a back tooth. The
sealant acts as a barrier, protecting enamel from plaque and acid. Dental
sealants have been use safely and effectively for more than two decades, and can
benefit both children and adults.
Sports Mouthguards

Sports mouthguards are resilient plastic appliances that
have been designed in a fashion where they cover over and encase an
athlete's teeth and the gums and bone that support them. Dr. Manos offers
Playsafe custom mouth guards that provide protection for the hard (teeth and
jaw) and soft (lips, cheeks, gums) tissues of the mouth by way of absorbing
and redistributing the forces generated by traumatic blows.
Diagnodent -
Diagnodent is a major breakthrough that allows us to monitor the areas below the
hard surfaces. Dr. Manos can now locate hidden decay, and with treatment stop
the spread of the disease before it destroys the tooth from within. Click
